Magic combinations… when the site just clicks
October 20, 2007 – 4:19 pmMy goal for all my sites and those of my clients is to discover special combinations of traffic generation method, landing page and process that produce more profit with the smallest cost (money AND time) possible. Each of these components and discovering multiple combinations contributes to site success and the success of your business in the long run. New web masters and E-commerce adventures, whether selling electronics or underwear, seem to make the same global mistake. They view the site as whole unit.
If I can offer any suggestion for new E-commerce entrepreneurs, it is this. View your site as a set of combinations made of the above mentioned pieces. If you have thousands of products, don’t assume that each landing page and ad copy will work as long as you change the model number or something like that.
Yes, you’ll get sales but they will fluctuate and frustrate you.
Pick a product that you have sold or think you can sell. Think hard about what your visitors are looking for when they seek that item and make some changes to the content on the landing page that aligns it with the visitor. Next and just as important, if you’re using adwords or some other PPC deal, align your ad copy with your landing page.
The bottom line is this, don’t rely on a buckshot approach for long term success. Combine buckshot for big sites along with specialization in order to find the combinations that double sales or better!
